Many waterfalls are located within Shenandoah National Park's boundaries, but several of them are considered to be significant. This Web site is the first ever to contain photos, maps, information and video clips of each one of Shenandoah's major waterfalls.
Please keep in mind that the waterfalls are not nearly as impressive when water levels are low. I photographed all of the below falls over the course of two years, shortly after substantial rainfalls. Some are lacking 'greenery' as they were taken during either late Fall or Winter.
Most of the trails generally begin the hike downwards, with the return trip upwards and usually steep. Those who set out to take these hikes should be prepared, preferably carrying a bottle or two of water, and avoiding the hike altogether if there is any prediction of inclimate weather. These hikes may be exhausting for some, especially elderly people and those not accustomed to physical activity.
